Contents of the CD | Sample presentation-"Focus on Friendship"

1. Sail Into Success! Let Guidance Help LIght the Way: This presentation incorporates a nautical theme to present an overview of a comprehensive elementary guidance and counseling program. It is a fun and informative way to introduce your program components, referral guidelines, and job description to faculty, parents or community audiences.

2. Bounce Back With Guidance :This presentation uses a high interest sports theme to explain the role of the counselor to students. It includes directions for an interactive "beach ball" activity and reproducible student self-referral forms.

3. Guidance Helps Students Grow to Be Their Best: In this presentation, the counselor is compared to a gardener who helps children grow to be their best. The analogy of little seeds growing into beautiful flowers with the proper care helps students understand the role of the counselor as a grown up helper and friend.

4. Curtain Call for Character: You Can Be a Star! This presentation defines character, gives an overview of 8 desirable character traits and stresses the importance of developing these traits to become a "star" in life. Students are given practical strategies for modeling each quality.

5. Let's Take a Magic Carpet Ride Into the Future: This whimsical, but valuable presentation outlines important factors which lead to a successful career path. It incorporates instructions for a large group activity and two reproducible worksheets which identify participant interests, abilities and values while connecting career interests to classroom learning.

6. Don't Pop Your Balloon! A balloon metaphor in this presentation helps students learn about anger, its physiological and social consequences, and offers them appropriate outlets for the healthy expression of anger.

7. Focus on Friendship: This presentation focuses on qualities and behaviors that help students build and maintain friendships. A reproducible "Friendship Bingo" activity is included.

8. Step by Step: Making Wise Choices: This presentation leads students through five simple decision-making steps including naming the problem, brainstorming, imagining consequences, choosing and evaluating. Emphasis is on the importance of starting with simple decisions and progressing to choices that will impact their health and safety as they grow older.

9. Getting Yourself Together When Your Family Comes Apart: This is an excellent presentation to use with a small group of children whose parents may be experiencing separation, divorce, incarceration, or other family changes. The focus is on students' feelings, support systems and positive coping skills.
